MY PALS: BUNNY

Don’t let that photo (right) fool you:  My new pal, Bunny, is tiny.  (I know, the pic makes her look gargantuan — like the Trojan Horse or something.)  Bunny’s the new kid on the beach in Amagansett

— this was her first summer there — but you’d never know it:  She already acts like she owns the place!  Always giving every dog that comes by the once-over, always buzzing from blanket to blanket to check things out.  And when I say buzzing, I mean buzzing:  That dog can fly!  Fastest dog I’ve ever seen.  Faster than Ruckus, my Pit Bull cousin.  Faster than Pickle, my Black Lab nephew.  Faster than Grace and Gwen, the next door Vizslas.  Faster even than I was when I was two — that’s how old Bunny is — and I had wheels back then!

I can’t say Bunny and I are besties yet.  Her mom and dad, Hannah and Eric, generally plant their sand chairs on a different part of the beach.  But when I go for walks with Beagle Man and Mom, Bunny will sprint after us to see what’s up.  (Beagle Man says she’s like a drone — she just shows up out of nowhere, wherever you happen to be!)

Sometimes while I’m napping, she’ll just buzz over, on her own, to our spot on the beach; she’s pretty independent for a two-year-old.  I couldn’t figure out what breed she is, because she doesn’t really look like any of the other dogs I know.  Her dad says she’s a Chihuahua/Dachshund/Miniature Pinscher/yada yada mix.  All I know is that means she’s fast.

The picture on the left was taken at Elvis, a café and wine bar in NYC, where B-Man and Mom met Bunny’s parents for cocktails and appetizers.  Well, well.  Guess my invite to that little soirée got lost in the mail.

RICKY THE BEAGLE USED TO HAVE A MY PALS COLUMN.  I’VE ALWAYS WANTED ONE OF MY OWN.  NOW I HAVE IT.
