Friday Night Social Club

Posted on by Kemba

DDSIt’s been a great Friday so far.  And yes, I do know my days of the week.  Duh.  I can also tell time, though this may be news to Beagle Man’s friend Rick.  Has anyone ever taken note of the fact that I wake Beagle Man every morning at 8 o’clock, give or take a couple of minutes?  And that I gaze at Mom every night at 9 — till she finally realizes it’s time to feed me?  Seriously.  So what was I saying? Oh, yeah — Friday.  Took a cool hike this

Never a dull moment

morning, up the Lye Brook Falls trail in Manchester.  You should have seen Beagle Man trying to cross all the streams, stepping from icy rock to icy rock, using a stick to keep his balance.  I kept grabbing at his stick, which I suppose made it even more challenging for him.  It was actually pretty funny.  But the best part of Friday in Vermont comes tonight — soon! — when all the weekend dog families start showing up.  Usually Lola, from across the way, gets here first.  She’s kind of puny and yappy, so I pretty much ignore her.  Next it’ll probably be Watson, the Kerry Blue Terrier, from the house to our right.  He’s hyperactive, like me, so we get along great.  Sometimes he brings along Stella, the Shepherd, who wears a purple light on her collar.  But my best friend of all is Cody, the Golden.  I can hear him barking as his car rounds the bend on Glendon Hills Road — and then he comes charging through the woods to meet up in front of my house.  That’s where it all happens.  Fetching.  Wrestling.  Humping.  Races. Keep-away.  Can’t wait till the gang’s all here!

Beagle Man and Ricky always have a lot to say, so I’ll just pipe up in The Duck Dog Speaks whenever I can.
