A Salty Dog Story
This sense of deja vu I’m feeling? I kind of had it when I met little Vera on the beach in Montauk, but it really hit me big-time this morning when I was horsing around at Burying Hill Beach with this young pup named Griffin. And then it all came back to me: Remember last winter, when I was a tiny puppy, and Beagle Man would take me to Burying Hill Beach every morning the moment I woke up, even if it was before sunrise? (Which, by the way, I appreciate a lot more now, since I know how late he likes to sleep.) Okay, so a
bunch of times we ran into this couple, Nico and Robin, and they thought I was the most adorable little dog, and decided they were going to get one just like me. Well, Griffin, the dog from this morning? He’s the dog they got! He’s from Saltydog Kennels in Nova Scotia, same as me! He spent his first two months learning to behave from Steve and Shelley, same as me! I can tell we’re gonna be amazing friends. He likes to do all the same things I do — fetching, swimming, jumping up on people, playing tug-of-war and keep-away. He’s a little better trained than I am (not my fault), but he’s not as fast, and can’t swim quite as far. Remember, though, he’s only 6 months old. When I was that young, I couldn’t do a lot of stuff as well as I can now, either.
Beagle Man and Ricky always have a lot to say, so I’ll just pipe up in The Duck Dog Speaks whenever I can.
