Epilogue???
He’s ba-a-a-ck! That’s right, the Beagle Man has landed — right here in WePo after 21 days on the road. Of course, first order of business was his mushy reunion with Kemba, who bowled B-Man over, slurped up his face, reached his paws onto Beagle Man’s shoulders in a doggy-style hug . . . yada-yada-yada. Very touching.
Just before making it back home, the final stop on the road was with the Delaware in-laws, Lisa and Joe (couldn’t short-change the Delaware in-laws after visiting the North Carolina in-laws), where there was a one-day-before-Thanksgiving feast! Man, I only wish I’d been there for that one! “No table too high” is the Beagle motto — along with “where there’s food, there’s a way.” And speaking of food: Who remembers the Beagle Man Cross-Country Road Trip Diet our guy’s been touting ever since the LA/XC series began back in 2011? How every year he loses anywhere from 3 to 8 pounds on it? Yeah,
well that’s when he’s chasing me or the K-Dawg around and skipping meals to make up for dog-park time. This year, there was no Kemba, so no skipped meals. Instead: Lots of restaurants and bars with the guys, eating and drinking everything in sight. I don’t know the exact bad news yet, but I have
heard B-Man say he’s absolutely terrified to step on the scale. Hey, you know those
“guess-the-mileage” contests he used to run? How ’bout a “guess-the-weight” contest this year, L.O.L. When Beagle Man gave me the privilege of writing this wrap-up (aka he didn’t feel like doing it himself), he asked me to
please thank friends and family who pitched in as co-pilots, and also those who provided lodging, grub, and entertainment along the way. So, on the B-Man’s behalf: Big shout-outs to co-pilots Greg, Geiger, Matt, Robby, and Brianne; and to Peter & Heidi (St. Loo), Terry &
Patrick (Greensboro), Ruth and Jack & Carol (D.C.), and Lisa & Joe (Delaware) for their hospitality. Of course, B-Man sends his biggest thanks to the Missus, for first dreaming up, and then arranging this whole crazy/wonderful Beagle Man Birthday Tour! And now . . . one final piece of business: Do we really believe this was the “Epilogue Trip”? I, for one, am not convinced. I’ve heard talk (Matt alluded to this, too, at the end of his “Three Generations of Back Problems”guest post) about a cross-country drive with grandsons somewhere down the road. Don’t rule it out. You never know with the Beagle Man . . .
The Roof Rack Report used to appear regularly on Mondays. Now it appears once in a blue moon, when Beagle Man deigns to give me some space . . .
