I have to tell you about the new girl who moved in next door. Her name is Grace, and she’s really, really good looking. She’s a Vizsla. I’ve always liked Vizslas. She has a short, super-smooth coat,
and a great tan. And we’re the same age — we’re both turning five next month. All right, I’m like two weeks older. Big deal. John, her dad, says usually Vizslas don’t like to swim, but Grace loves the ocean, just like me. He also says most of them don’t retrieve, but check this out: Yesterday morning I was fetching a log in the waves, my favorite log, maybe 125 times, when Beagle Man called out “Comida!” — which means it’s time for breakfast. So I stopped mid-fetch and sprinted up to the house, leaving the log drifting out in the deep water. As I reached the dune I looked back, and what did I see? Grace swimming out and retrieving my log. She probably figured I’d want it later. I’m pretty sure she likes me. P.S. To my other friend Grace, in Illinois: Don’t worry — I haven’t forgotten you!
RICKY THE BEAGLE USED TO HAVE HIS MY PALS COLUMN. I’VE ALWAYS WANTED ONE OF MY OWN. NOW I HAVE IT. 🙂
Hi Kemba! Thanks for mentioning me in your update about your new girlfriend. Gotta say the color match is exceptional, but I provide a great contrast, and remember my dotted eyebrows match your color exactly. We non-pure-breds often end up with such interesting markings.
I’ll try not to be jealous since I really don’t fetch in the water as you may recall…, but please don’t forget my exceptional prowess in ground-hunting, especially with rabbits.
Love, your Chicago “best mutt ever” friend, Amazing Grace.

That’s something I could never forget!
