Fowl!
You all remember, Joe, right? Beagle Man’s friend who’s not, um, all that crazy about dogs? (You can take a look at what Ricky the Beagle wrote about him in “The Odd Couple.”) So what Joe’s been up to lately doesn’t really surprise me. But his wife, Pam —
who I thought was my friend? Who loves all dogs? Who baby-sits her kids’ dogs? Honestly — I’m shocked!! This strange behavior started back in February in Vermont. Driving home from dinner, they rammed a poor defenseless owl with their front grill. Somehow, the bird survived: They found it the next morning alongside the
driveway! Now in fairness to Pam, she walked over to a nearby Orvis store and asked for help, and some nice employees volunteered to get the owl to the closest
rehab facility. So that story, at least, had a happy ending. But then just last week, Pam was driving on the Merritt Parkway . . . and this time hit a turkey! The way she put it was that the turkey hit her — that it jumped out at her car from the median. But come on, what kind of bird-brain would do something that dumb? I’m really starting to wonder about Joe and Pam. All I can say is, if you’re an animal — especially any kind of bird — watch out for a white Honda with Connecticut plates!
Beagle Man and Ricky always have a lot to say, so I’ll just pipe up in The Duck Dog Speaks whenever I can.
