On the Road Again
Finally . . . back in the saddle! Vermont this time. But only after spending seven consecutive nights under the same roof! Can you imagine?! For one full week I didn’t get to sniff out a new motel room!
Or sit and watch Beagle Man check every closet and every drawer before pushing the luggage cart out to the parking lot! Or make cool new friends in awesome new dog parks! Yeah, I know: “Weren’t you the one whining about your road routine in that post (I Want To Go Home!) from Lordsburg, New Mexico just two weeks ago?” Okay, fine. I happened to be a little aggravated that day by the 90-plus-degrees heat we kept getting blasted by in Arizona and New Mexico and Texas. But let’s face it: I’m a travelin’ man . . . just like Beagle Man. And you didn’t see him sitting home for a week. No, two days after we get back from LA/XC-5, he and the missus hit the road for a wedding
on the Maryland shore . . . leaving me behind in Westport! But this weekend, everything was good again. Eight inches of fresh snow Thursday night when we arrived in Vermont . . . and it’s still only October! Lots and lots of fetching in Equinox Pond! Amazing hike around Hapgood Pond! We had one little rough patch, when Beagle Man couldn’t see me for . . . I don’t know, maybe five minutes? OMG, did he give me tongue-lashing when he found me! But I just tilted my head, promised to show my face whenever he called for me, and the whole thing blew over. As always. What I find funny about this is if either of us is ever gonna get lost in the woods, it sure as hell isn’t gonna be me!
Beagle Man and Ricky always have a lot to say, so I’ll just pipe up in The Duck Dog Speaks whenever I can.
