Lately, Beagle Man keeps talking about how I should get a job. Cosmonaut? Beagle Brigade? I already have a job — lots of them! I announce every guest who shows up at our house. I make sure everything smells right in the neigborhood. I lick the kitchen floor till it shines. But if I really had to work, I’ll tell you who has a good job: My friend Boo. Boo’s about my age — she’s an 8-year-old Cavalier King Charles — and she works at Crossroads Hardware with Beagle Man’s friend Janet. And sometimes at Dunville’s with Janet’s husband, Dan. All she has to do is lay on the counter, look cute, and make people feel happy to be in the store. And she’s good at it! We were there buying blue-and-white striped beach chairs, and Beagle Man was laughing a lot. I was feeling pretty happy, too. Now that’s my kind of job.
MY PALS WILL BE RIGHT HERE ON MONDAYS. IT’S ABOUT, UH . . . MY PALS. IS YOUR DOG LIKE ME . . . HANDSOME? MIND OF HIS OWN? TELL ME. MAYBE YOUR PUP WILL TURN UP IN “MY PALS.”SEND YOUR STORY AND PHOTO TO BEAGLE MAN . HE HANDLES MY E-MAIL FOR ME.
If I were Boo, I would be careful. Seems like Ricky has his eye on her position. Or perhaps on Boo, herself. She seems to have retained her girlish figure despite working next door to a primo donut shop.
To be clear…beagles don’t work. they pretend to work. Most of their time is spent strategizing for food opportunities. Like, what’s the best angle to see the frig. door open or and getting under high chairs of unsuspecting kids for food droppings. You get the idea. Work?? Seriously. They need a nap to think that one thru.
