Got an e-mail earlier this week from my wife on the intra-Herman distribution list (Carol, Matt, Greg, Robby, Luz, me): “OMG . . . I’m crying.” The subject line read: Joyful beagle sees owner after 6 months. 
Sounded great — but I was in the middle of something and couldn’t watch the video at the moment. A few minutes later Matt replied all: “And that is why dogs are the best . . .” A few more superlatives were flung around and, okay, I had to have a look.
After which I e-mailed, to pretty much everyone I know on the planet: “OH MY GOD! Have a look at this! 
This is literally the coolest thing I have ever seen in my entire life!”
Only problem: With my typical internet panache . . . I had watched the wrong clip! This came to light when Carol said, “Wasn’t the beagle amazing?” and I said, “What beagle?” The clip I’d watched was about a bulldog. A surfing bulldog.
Seems my friend Pam had sent me an e-mail earlier that same day — “OK, they’re not beagles. But still very cute, and talented, too!” — with a link to a youtube video. And in my eagerness to check out the “joyful beagle,” I clicked on the wrong link. (So sue me.)
The good news is you just can’t lose with all those doggy videos. One of these will make you cry. And the other is the coolest thing you’ll ever see.
Btw, I went to my xxth Teaneck High School reunion last Saturday. Though Ricky is my (almost) constant companion, it never occurred to me to bring him to a reunion at a Sheraton hotel in NJ. Apparently it did occur to my classmate Lili G . . . whose 5-pound Pomeranian partied all night in her handbag . . .
O.k., I, for one, am crying . . . and to think we are about to kennel our dog for TWO WEEKS while we go romp on the Cape! I don’t think I can do it! Maybe he can come and surf with us? 🙂
