Bluegrass Country
All good so far. Got to LGA nice and early, just the way I like it. My whole family made lots of fun of me for leaving WePo at 6:30PM for a 9:53 flight, but I don’t care. Who needs an ulcer?
Early highlight: I succeeded in ordering my dinner using the iPad at the airport bar! First time I was ever able to clear that hurdle! Good omen. Btw, I highly recommend the Sizzling Garlic Shrimp at Bisoux. Better-than-real-restaurant quality.
Only bummer: When I was packing, I came upon a Swiss Army knife in a neat little black case with a red Swiss cross on it. I’d never used it before — don’t even know where or when I got it — but it had a bottle opener, and seemed like a good thing to bring along. So I put it in my backpack. Which, of course, didn’t make it through security. Had to surrender it to the TSA agent. I hope that Swiss Army knife finds a nice new home.
But let’s focus on my ordering-via-iPad success.
OMG! Almost forgot! Spotted Colin Jost going through security. Normally I don’t pester celebs, but I also saw him over the
summer at West Lake Fish House in Montauk, and left him alone that time. I couldn’t let the opportunity go by twice. He was cool with it.
Arrived at Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport well after midnight. Greg, who’d taken a flight from Philly, and Geiger, who’d been on a different flight from wherever the heck he lives in Pennsylvania, were already there to greet me. (Geiger actually flew in to Louisville by mistake, then drove to Lexington, if that’s a sign of things to come . . .) Matt joins the party Friday night. Which I note, as I look at the time, is actually tonight.
The Bourbon Trail awaits. Bring it on!
