Beagles and Bantams and Bears, Oh My!

Posted on by Ricky

RRROn Saturday I went to Hartford to see my real good friend Rob G. play football, Trinity against Bowdoin.  Trinity

won 40-21, but honestly?  I wasn’t all that into the game (see photo, right).  What was cool, though, is that there were dogs all over the place.  In the parking lot, on the grounds near the stadium, walking the track — it seemed like the Westminster Dog Show as much as a college football game!  I met a really awesome Cavalier named

Brady, and a skinny, adorable puppy, Titus — a beagle/Jack Russell mix.  And the Bantams were playing the Polar Bears:  animals, animals, animals.  Anyway, let me tell you what I did at the tailgate after the game.  There’s food everywhere.  Incredible smells everywhere.  And, of course, I have to listen to Beagle Man telling everyone, over

and over, what a sweet disposition I have, except that I’m food-obsessed — as if that’s a

bad thing, or something to be ashamed of — and that one way or another, I’ll wind up with someone’s lunch.  All right, my nose is in the air, sniffing, sniffing.  I wait for my chance.  They stop paying attention to me, just for a second.  And I latch onto the plastic table cloth with my teeth — and tug down an entire tray of chocolate chip cookies!  I only get one bite, though, before B-Man grabs me by the collar and the others scoop up all the chocolate chips.  The B-Man scolds me, and pretends to be mad, but I can tell he’s kind of proud, because he slips me a treat.  I really would have preferred more of the cookies, though.

The Roof Rack Report (#roofrackreport on Twitter, for those who follow me already on @BeagleManHank) appears on Mondays, usually.  Actually, whenever Beagle Man decides to give me some space . . .
