We didn’t get through the entire Top 100 that Saturday night.  In fact, it wasn’t until lunchtime Monday — Memorial Day — that we finally  reached the Top 10.  By then, as the holiday weekend wound down, the crowd was a little less raucous and celebratory, and a little more judgmental.  (Sort of how they were on Saturday

Robby had another gripe, when he saw my breakdown of selection by decade (included below):  “You have 16 songs from the sixties!!!???” He says this as if we’re talking about medieval times.  And my friend Mike was appalled that country newcomer Eric Church snagged the #4 spot, in the company of all-time greats Springsteen and the Stones.  “Top 100 songs

ever?” he scoffed, when I played “Drink In My Hand.”  “That’s not even one of the top 100 songs of this week!”

But as my mama (or someone) used to say, “You can’t please all the people all the time.”  And as I myself put it, in my “pre-read” — “If you don’t like it, make your own damn list!”  (Better yet:  Let me know which of my choices you hate, and which of my omissions were downright criminal:  Add a comment)

And for the record (pun intended), Judge Ricky’s favorite song on this list is Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart”; he thinks she’s singing about something edible.  Tell me your dog’s favorite tune.  Best answer gets this season’s most sought-after CD:  “Beagle Man’s 20 Favorite Songs Of All Time.” (Add a comment)
