A Different Kind Of Jeep
I don’t know quite what to make of this dog, Jeep. He belongs to Kelly’s cousin Tommy, and he came
to visit Beagle Man and the missus out at Montauk last week. Quite honestly, he wasn’t exactly what I’d call handsome — at least not like yours truly. But I’ll tell you this: He was a huge hit, both around the house and down at the beach. Everyone was making a tremendous fuss over him, and seemed to think he was absolutely adorable. The B-Man let him use my bowls, the fancy green enamel ones from Earth Animal that Mrs. B won in a raffle, as well as my super-soft velour doggy bed. And, yes, that bothered me a little. But what really got me was the extremely strange way Jeep acted around food. He was within easy reach of the chips-and-dip, and all sorts of other amazing hors d’oeuvres . . . and he just sat there! And when Beagle Man was grilling out on the deck, Jeep just kept right on snoozing on the living room floor! No begging, no jumping, no whining. I mean, really — what kind of dog acts like that? I sure hope this Toller I keep hearing about is a little more on the ball in the food-snagging department.
The Roof Rack Report (#roofrackreport on Twitter, for those who follow me already on @BeagleManHank) appears on Mondays, usually. Actually, whenever Beagle Man decides to give me some space . .
