I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know when I say my UConn Huskies are National Champs! For the FIFTH TIME since 1999! Five national championships in 25 years! Next closest number of ‘ships in that same period? Just three — for both Duke and North Carolina. (What’s up with that, blue bloods?)
You also know that my dog, Kemba, is named for Kemba Walker — Herman family hero, revered star of the 2011 championship team, and probably the most beloved Husky of them all.
What you might not know is that Carol and I — with an assist from our sons — were the Official Good Luck Charms of the 2023 UConn Huskies!
Their Big East quarterfinal win over Providence at Madison Square Garden? Carol and I were there (with Robby).
Their NCAA first-round win over Iona in Albany? Carol and I were there.
Their NCAA second round win over St. Mary’s, also in Albany? Carol and I were there.
Their win over San Diego State in Houston for the National Championship? Carol and I were there (with Robby and Matt).
And standing in the first row behind the police barricade at the Whitehall Hotel to greet the team bus as it returned from NRG Stadium? Yep, that’s us!
So . . . note to Coach Hurley and the Huskies: Don’t leave home without us.

Sooooo….I think Kemba needs a friend — like a new husky puppy! As you get older Kemba will need a friend to use up his energy. And, you can have them run the little boys around in VT on a dog sled. Until then, you’re not a TRUE fan!
