My Friend Nena
On Thursday, July 7, my good friend Nena (some would say my “girlfriend”) woke up having trouble breathing, so Luz and her niece rushed her to the vet. There was a mass in her lung, it turns out, and her heart was enlarged. Before they could even get her to a specialist, she collapsed and died. Suddenly. Exactly the way I went. And I can tell you, there’s something to be said for that. No suffering. Nena the Chihuahua and Kemba never developed much chemistry. In fact, the K-Dawg pretty much ignored her, as he does all
really small dogs, I’ve noticed. Must be a big dog thing. Beagle Man used to try with Nena, but if he moved even an inch in her direction, she’d dash under the couch and yap bloody murder. I was the only one in the family who really got Nena, really appreciated her. And I did from Day One — the first time I stayed over at Luz’s apartment. I saw adorable little Nena sleeping under her blanket, and I couldn’t resist jumping in with her. Luz covered us both . . . and the rest is history. It’s funny, but even though Nena was just a little bitty thing, she always called the shots. I know B-Man says about me, “It’s my way or the highway.” But not with Nena. She was pushy and high-maintenance, but I liked her that way. The silver lining? I’ll be able to welcome her real soon. Me and Brody and Roxy and the rest of the old crew, we’re all up here waiting for you, Nena.
The Roof Rack Report (#roofrackreport on Twitter, for those who follow me already on @BeagleManHank) used to appear regularly on Mondays. Now it appears once in a blue moon, when Beagle Man deigns to give me some space . . .

Aw. Condolences to Luz and family on the loss of Nena. But what a beautiful doggy life she lived. And what joy she gave to her humans, of to Ricky. Kemba was too young to appreciate, really. Love to all.
RIP, Nena. Ricky, well done.
Hank,
Sorry to hear about Nena. May she RIP. My former yellow lab’s ashes were spread on a golf course in CT which my son golfs at frequently.
Hoping Nena’s owners find some way to keep her close.

I glad Ricky is there to welcome Nena to the over the hill pack. I hope all of my Over the Hill pack are together and enjoying their new life; Tootali, Rocky, Henry, Jasmine, Monty, and Scooter. Maybe Ricky can look them up and plan a grand feast.
EXCELLENT idea!!!
