Cousin Bruce
I know, it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me. Don’t think I haven’t been wanting to write. Ah, well, but that’s Beagle Man for you — love the one you’re with. If he’s not hogging the bylines for himself, then it’s Kemba — you know, He Who Can Do No Wrong. Speaking of forgotten dogs, I was wondering when anyone was
gonna remember good old Cousin Bruce (My Pals: Bruce). Patty and Teddy brought him up to Westport Saturday for a hike around Lake Mohegan with the K-Dawg. Since there’s been so much fuss over Ruckus, the new kid on the block (B-Man’s “grand-dog” — how cute), and over Kemba, of course, I hadn’t heard a peep about Bruce in quite some time. Fact is, Bruce was one of my very best friends ever — and I was a little more selective than Kemba, who gets along with anything on four legs. I’ll never forget when Bruce happily shared his favorite big bone with me that first time I met him out in Palo Alto on LA/XC-2. No way I would have done the same thing if it had been my house and my bone. But that’s Bruce for you. Chill. He put up with me back in the day. He puts up with Kemba now. And, don’t get me wrong, cause I really like Kemba, and I admire his energy — but that duck dog can wear you out! I mean, he’s non-stop! Bruce, though, he just rolls with it. Let me tell you, that goofy black Lab is one helluva dog.
The Roof Rack Report (#roofrackreport on Twitter, for those who follow me already on @BeagleManHank) used to appear regularly on Mondays. Now it appears once in a blue moon, when Beagle Man deigns to give me some space . . .
