Liberation Day
You haven’t heard from me much lately. I’ve been too depressed. It’s been a tough three-and-a-half weeks since my little boy cut his paw wide open at Gale Meadows Pond in VT. He’s had to keep it tightly bandaged, wear that ridiculous cone, do next to nothing, and report to the doc every couple of days for a dressing change and a progress check.
He’s been pretty glum. How do I know this? Well, he already wrote about it, for one. Also, I happen to spend a huge amount of time — some would say inordinate — in Kemba’s head. And believe me, those aren’t happy thoughts in there.
But last night — finally — the powers that be at the doggy hospital pronounced him good to go!!!!!
We were warned that Kemba shouldn’t zoom from zero to 60 in one day . . . and the timing on this is perfect. Carol and I happen to be off to Cali for a long weekend to help an old friend celebrate his –th birthday in Santa Ynez. (My new policy is to not report the exact number on these old-friend birthdays; can live without the eye-rolls from my younger followers.) Trip will also include some bike touring in Santa Barbara wine country. Luz will use the interlude to ease Turbo-Dog back into his active life. And when I return next week, look out, world! It’ll be the dog park, Burying Hill Beach — all fetch, all the time!
That’s a promise, little doggy.
