Happy Birthday Dear Kemba . .
No, I didn’t forget to post on Kemba’s birthday Thursday. My laptop got sunstroke or something out here at the beach, and has
been spending the last few days at The Computer Shop on Main Street in Amagansett. Since then, I’ve learned from Suzanne, my social media guru, that I could have actually posted from someone else’s computer (duh) — but I didn’t know that on K’s actual b-day.
These are not easy concepts for the Beagle Man.
I did throw a party for Kemba on
the beach, and — truth be told — I put a nice chunk of preparation into it: 1. I bought Kemba a brand-new toy at One Stop Pet Shop; 2. I found the very best fetching sticks on the beach and festooned them with ribbons as party favors for all the dogs I invited; 3. I taped a sign on my surf board and balanced the board on two sand chairs, welcoming all Kemba’s beach friends: “STICKS
TO FETCH! WINE TO DRINK!” (This is easily the best use I’ve gotten out of the surf board all summer.) 4. I prepared and set out a Guest Book; 5. I brought down a cooler with five bottles of chilled Pinot Grigio.
With 20/20 hindsight, I’d probably have to admit this was overkill. All in all, one dog — a little white fluffball named Callahan — and six humans showed up. (And the human total included Bo, who doesn’t turn 2 until
next month, and didn’t have much choice in the matter.) Since Callahan wasn’t interested in sticks, all my party favors were used by the birthday boy. And since only two of my guests wanted wine, all the rest was used by yours truly.
But our Dirty Half-Dozen hung out and “partied” for over an hour, and besides the be-ribboned sticks, Kemba came away with a
bright yellow Kong Wet Wubba, courtesy of the Beagle Man, and a cake-with-candles plush toy that plays “Happy Birthday” when you bite it, courtesy of Callahan.
And finally: A special shout-out to my beach buddy Jen, who missed the party because she had to go home to NJ with Bruce the Poodle for a few days, but remembered to send a “Beyond Bone” (synthetic chew toy) over the next day via her sister Maggie. Much appreciated!
Coming soon: Kemba’s first-year report card . . .

Kemba has certainly matured into a great looking, furry dog. Congratulations to all.lucy
Hank: I am so happy that you and your family found Kemba! Kemba had big shoes to fill after Ricky and looks like he did it. What a wonderful life he has with you.
