The Subaru’s Last Ride
When Mrs. Beagle Man took the train down to Philly over the weekend, she came back not only with Nana, but also with Nana’s 2004 Toyota Corolla. Nana turns 90 this summer, and is finally calling it a career as a driver. (I heard Beagle Man say this is really good news for the rest of the driving and pedestrian public.) Nana’s car is
joining the Herman fleet, but in order to make room, B-Man and the Mrs. said another car had to go — and it was Matt’s good ol’ Subaru that got tabbed. Now I’d be lying if I said I had a huge attachment to that old black clunker, but I know Matt got it when he was 16, and it’s the only car he’s ever owned, and he’s my brother — so when he took me to Greens Farms Station for one last ride in the Subaru on Sunday night, I acted appropriately solemn and serious. When you think about it, I guess the move makes sense. They’ve had the Subaru since 1997, and Beagle Man says it sounds like a bike with baseball cards in its spokes. Nana’s only had her car for 8 years — and she’s put a grand total of 8,420 miles on it. Eight thousand four hundred and twenty miles in eight years! Beagle Man and I do that in one month driving to L.A. and back! Another reason everyone’s happy? They’ve had that annoying jingle 1-877-Kars4Kids in their heads for 10 years — and now they finally get to use it.
The Roof Rack Report (#roofrackreport on Twitter, for those who follow me already on @BeagleManHank) appears on Mondays, usually. It’s about politics, travel, food . . . important stuff like that.
